Maritsa is an independent midwife currently running her own community midwifery and women’s health service in Rhodes, Greece. She finished her midwifery degree with honours from the Alexander Technological Educational Institute of Thessaloniki in 2015 and prior to working for the NHS from 2017 until 2023, she also took part in voluntary midwifery work in Ghana, West Africa.
During her time working for the NHS she was a clinical midwife working in high risk labour care, low risk birth centres, antenatal and postnatal care and in the community. In this time she also became safeguarding champion for her hospital where she worked on multidisciplinary care pathways for vulnerable women. Prior to moving back to Greece to start her dream of improving birth experiences and healthcare for local women she also got her MSc in Global Public Health with distinction from QMUL, and since 2018 she has been a Board member of the Hellenic British Midwifery association.
Finally, she was recently the keynote speaker and organiser of a conference run by Mansoura University in Egypt with a view of scaling up the midwifery capacity in Egypt and teaching obstetric nurses about midwifery.
